Sony India has finally launched its three Android Gingerbread powered NXT series smartphones in India, Sony Xperia P, Sony Xperia U and Sony Xperia Sola. All these 3 devices are now available in Indian retails stores as well as Online portals in price range of 17500/- to 25500/- INR. We will talk this below in details. The good news for customers is that similar to Galaxy Tab 2, Sony again has tied up with Tata Docomo for promoting these devices where people will get 3GB of 3Gdata free of cost for the first 3 months since purchase.

For the users who already using 2G services will also get 3GB data as well as 300 minutes talktime for free. That’s not all. Tata Docomo has also launched a gaming service called ‘Let’s Play on Android’ for Xperia Sola users particularly where we can have access of premium Android Games just for 99/- for a monthly. It seems that Sony India Mobile Managing Director P Balaji has a strong expectation from these NXT Series, as he added “The smartphone segment is growing by a compound annual growth rate of nearly 70 per cent. We as a company want to focus only on this segment. By the end of September this year, we plan to phase out all our feature phone models. The decision to phase out feature phones was taken a few quarters back and is being implemented now. There are six-seven feature phone models of the company in the market currently.”

Anyways, Xperia P, Xperia U, Xperia Sola are now available in markets all over India and can be now order from any online shopping sites. Let’s have a look on each devices individually.

Sony Xperia P:

Sony Xperia P running on Androd 2.3 (Gingerbread) has 4-inch scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen qHD display that offers 960 x 540 pixels resolution. The display is actually powered by White Magic technology that offers additional white pixels along with standard RGB pixels. Thank god it wont features Pentile Matrix (personally i don’t like it).The device is powered by 1 GHz U8500 dual-core processor and 1GB Ram for great multitasking experience. In addition there is an 8 megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash along with a Front VGA Camera for video calling. The camera offers 8x digital zoom 1080p video recording.

As per storage there is only 16GB Built in storage, we cannot expand the memory because there is no SDcard slot. This is actually a drawback of this smartphone. But 16GB is not less enough. You can store a good quanity of Songs and Movies and have fun on walk. You don’t need to woory about about its battery as its powered by 1350 mAh battery. I can even say that Xperia P is very similar to Xperia S that launched about a month ago. But Xperia P can be upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS later.

Now as it’s a high end device, its priced at 26,799 Rupees. But you can get a better deal with the online shopping portals. For example, Infibeam is selling Xperia P for
for just 25,500 Rupees with a free gift and other sites such as Saholic and Flipkart are selling it for Rupees 24,499.

Sony Xperia U:

Sony Xperia U is also running on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) that can be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich, but after a few weeks or so. Xperia U is powered by the same amount of processor clock, i.e. 1 GHz STE U8500 dual-core processor but is less in RAM. It features only 512Mb of RAM. Dissimilar to Xperia P, there is 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash and capable of recording HD 720p videos. Compared to Xperia P’s 8 x digital zoom, here you get 16x digital zoom. There is also a VGA camera on front for making video calls.

The device features a 3.5” scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen screen powered by Sony's Bravia Engine technology for better multimedia experience. Here you get 854 x 480 pixels resolution. As per storage capacity you get just 8 GB internal memory and unfortunately there is no Expansion memory slot for adding additional memory. This is only the reason why it cannot be said as the HTC’s One V competitor; otherwise it could have been the direct competitor for One V.

In other features, with Xperia U you will get access to Sony's Entertainment Network where you can listen unlimited songs, watch unlimited videos including all latest Hollywood blockbusters on Wifi or 3G network. Now as per the price, it costs very less than Xperia P. It costs just 17, 399/- INR. But here you get benefited if you buy it online. The device is available for Rupees 16,499/- on Flipkart, whereas you will buy it for just Rupees 15,988/- INR on Saholic has priced it at Rs. 15,998.

Sony Xperia Sola:

Sony Xperia Sola running on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is the 1st Android device to get a floating touch display technology. In addition, the spec of Sola is very similar to Xperia U, i.e. 1GHz dual-core processor, 512 MB of Ram, 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash allowing to record HD 720 pixels videos. But there is no Front facing Camera in this device, hence lacking to make video calls.

The other difference in Sola and above devices is such as the screen. Sola features 3.7” scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen with (and as i said above) floating touch display technology. The best difference in this smartphone is that there is an expansion memory slot. The device comes with 8 GB built-In storage capacity that can be expanded upto 32Gb with microSD memory card

As per the price, Sony Xperia Sola costs you 20,449/- INR in Retail store. But similar to above 2 devices, users can get it for just rupees 19,999/- on online shopping portals such as Infibeam.

Sony Xperia Sola Specs:
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (Will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update later)
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor

The term "Floating touch display technology" technology means you can access apps, internet pages or any thing without actually touching your screen. This technology recognises your finger's gestures and performs the action by just hovering your fingers on the display and dont need to touch it actually.
