So we have been waiting for Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Galaxy Grand 2 since past six months. Samsung said many times that they will roll out updated one by one for their higher Galaxy Smartphones including Grand 2. But recently i saw an update on justaboutphones saying Samsung has dropped the idea because they are too busy porting Lollipop for their all S series and Note series Flagship smartphones.
Now, as i was fed up of the same Kitkat taste on my Grand 2, thought to change it. After checking out several Custom ROMs, including CyanogenMod 12 which is based on Android 5.0, finally i found one. It is GenNxt N4 Project based on Galaxy Note 4’s OS. Although it is Android 4.4 Kitkat based ROM but it is mostly like lollipop. Most important part of this Custom ROM is being Bloatware free and very very light.
Please Note, this ROM doesn’t just brings UI of Note 4, but also many of its features like Floating Call and SMS widget. You can check the complete review of this ROM just after the installation steps in the below video.
I have installed this ROM on my Grand 2, and trust me, got a fresh look with much improved performance compared to the stock ROM. So, if anyone of you want to bring new Look and feel with performance to your Galaxy Grand 2, here it is. Simply follow these steps.
- Backup everything from your phone because flashing a new ROM means Wiping out the entire storage. It will delete all data from the device.
- Charge up the battery to atleast 70% before starting the process
Files need to be Downloaded:
- Download ClockworkMod (CWM)
- Download SuperSU
- Download GenNxt Note 4 ROM for Grand 2
- Download 4.4_DedS_v2.0
- Download Odin
Get all these files from this site’s Download Center.
Step #1: Rooting and installing CWM in Grand 2
You first need to Root your Grand 2 (of course) for installing the ROM. So, first copy the SuperSU Package in your Phone’s SD card and follow the steps provided in the video.
Step #2: Installing GenNxt N4 ROM
After rooting the phone, copy the downloaded ROM and DedS file in your SD Card and follow the installation steps from in the video.
